A Punch correspondent monitoring the situation observed that several commuters were stranded as security personnel blocked key entry points into Lagos as early as 7:32 a.m.

At the usually busy Berger gateway, a joint task force comprising police officers and officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) was seen turning back motorists and implementing the 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. movement ban announced by the Lagos State Police Command to ensure a peaceful election.

Military patrol vehicles were also stationed along the expressway, contributing to the heavy security presence. The blockade triggered long lines of immobilised vehicles, with many passengers forced to trek considerable distances to reach their destinations.

Some Lagos residents caught in the restriction expressed frustration and confusion, saying they were unaware of any planned lockdown.

One angry commuter, who spoke with a senior police officer at Berger, explained that he had just arrived from Port Harcourt and was en route to Ikeja when he was stopped.

“We didn’t know there was an election in Lagos. We just arrived from Port Harcourt for something urgent and were heading to Ikeja,” he said.

Despite his appeal, the officers refused him entry.

The Lagos State Police Command had earlier declared a restriction of movement across the state from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. on election day, in line with the guidelines set by the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC).

The ongoing polls are expected to produce new chairmen and councillors for the 20 Local Government Areas and 37 Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) across Lagos.

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
