The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced that any instance of ballot box snatching during Saturday’s local government elections will automatically trigger a by-election in the affected polling unit.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This declaration was made on Thursday during a press briefing by the LASIEC Chairman, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), who assured residents of the commission’s preparedness to conduct a credible, peaceful, and transparent election across all 57 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.

“There will be by-elections if a ballot box is snatched anywhere,” she warned while fielding questions from journalists at the Tripple C Event Centre in Sabo, Yaba.

Justice Okikiolu-Ighile stressed that while the commission does not anticipate or desire such disruptions, it stands ready to act decisively if electoral integrity is compromised.

Responding to further inquiries, she dismissed any rumours of a possible election postponement, affirming that LASIEC is fully set to proceed with the July 12 poll as scheduled.

As previously reported by The PUNCH, elections into the 57 LGAs and LCDAs in Lagos State are slated for Saturday, July 12, 2025.

Meanwhile, in preparation for the exercise, the Lagos State Police Command has announced a partial restriction of vehicular movement to bolster security across the state on election day.

The command, in an earlier advisory, had fixed the restriction to start at 3:00 a.m., but on Thursday, it issued a revised statement adjusting the restriction window.

To accommodate residents with medical emergencies or international travel arrangements, the new movement restriction will run from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., according to the command’s spokesperson, SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

“Members of the public are urged to comply and respect the revised timing,” the statement read.

Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring a secure and orderly environment throughout the electoral process.
