Snatching Ballot Boxes Will Backfire – LASIEC Threatens Repeat Elections in Affected Areas

The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has announced that any act of ballot box snatching during Saturday’s local government elections will automatically result in a by-election in the affected polling units.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to NIVONEWS, LASIEC Chairperson, Justice Bola Okikiolu-Ighile (retd.), issued the warning during a press briefing on Thursday ahead of the July 12 council polls, emphasizing the commission’s zero-tolerance for electoral malpractice.

“There will be by-elections if a ballot box is snatched anywhere. While we don’t pray for such to happen, we are prepared to act accordingly,” Okikiolu-Ighile declared, reaffirming LASIEC’s commitment to delivering a transparent, peaceful, and credible electoral process across all 57 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) in the state.

According to NIVONEWS, she further assured that there was no plan to postpone the elections, stating confidently, “We are fully prepared.”

In a related development, the Lagos State Police Command has revised its earlier directive on vehicular movement restrictions during election day. Initially set to begin at 3:00 a.m., the restriction will now run from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., as announced by police spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin.

“To alleviate difficulties for residents with medical emergencies or international travel plans, vehicular movement restrictions will now commence by 6:00 a.m. and end at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 12, 2025,” he stated.

According to NIVONEWS, Lagos Commissioner of Police, CP Olohundare Jimoh, also confirmed the deployment of security personnel to strategic locations across the state to ensure peace and order before, during, and after the elections.

NNPP Rejects Atiku, Says “We Don’t Want To Be Part Of ADC”.

In a statement on Thursday, NNPP National Secretary Ogini Olaposi said the party is not affiliated with the ADC and has no plans to join or merge with the coalition.

He clarified that the involvement of former Kano State Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso and members of the Kwankwasiya Movement in ADC activities does not represent the NNPP as a political party.

Olaposi also claimed that only a minority of Kwankwasiya supporters followed Kwankwaso, insisting that many of them have since joined the APC.
