“History Cannot Be Rewritten – Tinubu Was Key to Buhari’s Victory, Says Close Ally”
According to NIVONEWS, Aliyu made these remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, while responding to recent comments by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Boss Mustapha, who claimed that President Bola Tinubu did not play a decisive role in Buhari’s 2015 victory.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Aliyu dismissed the assertion that Buhari’s traditional 12 million votes guaranteed him the presidency in 2015, stressing that the critical alliance with Bola Tinubu and the political machinery of the South-West made the difference. He stated categorically that without Tinubu’s support, Buhari would not have won.
“My senior brother, Boss Mustapha, certainly got it wrong,” Aliyu said. “I can’t even remember where he was during the critical years of our political battles. Unfortunately, many Buhari loyalists today were nowhere near us during the real struggle. Some just stumbled into power and are now trying to rewrite the past.”
According to NIVONEWS, Aliyu credited Tinubu with being instrumental in Buhari’s emergence as the APC presidential candidate, recalling how the former Lagos State governor followed the campaign trail across Nigeria and offered vital strategic support behind the scenes.
He recounted his own role as returning officer during the APC presidential primaries in Lagos, saying Tinubu’s influence and resources were crucial to Buhari clinching the ticket and uniting the party.
Aliyu further refuted claims that Buhari did not support Tinubu’s emergence in 2023. According to NIVONEWS, he emphasized that if Buhari had wanted to derail APC’s chances, he had ample opportunity and means to do so but chose restraint.
“If Muhammadu Buhari did not want APC to win the election, he could have sabotaged it in many ways,” Aliyu asserted. “But he didn’t. He allowed the democratic process to run its course, and Tinubu emerged victorious.”
