Writers Sound the Alarm: NUJ Demands Swift Action from Oborevwori on Looming Flood Disaster

particularly in Warri, Udu, Uvwie, and Okuokoko communities. The Union noted that the severe flooding has plunged residents into untold hardship and despair.
In a communiqué issued after its maiden congress held at the newly inaugurated High Chief Government Ekpemupolo Press Centre, the NUJ urged the state government to prioritize the construction of functional drainage systems along flood-prone roads.
The Union lamented the deplorable condition of Eburu Street, off Okumagba Avenue—the only access road to the Press Centre—and appealed to Governor Oborevwori to extend his developmental efforts to rehabilitate the road.
While commending the governor for ongoing flyover projects at PTI Junction, Enerhen Junction, and DSC Roundabout in Uvwie, the NUJ also called on the state government to instruct the contractor, Julius Berger, to carry out urgent remedial work on the deteriorating Effurun Roundabout/DSC Roundabout stretch, which has developed gulleys and continues to cause major loss of man-hours for commuters.
The Union also encouraged the Warri Uvwie and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA) to expedite the reconstruction of roads and drainage systems at Eboh and other adjoining streets off Okumagba Avenue, Warri.
The congress applauded Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), the Federal Government’s contracted pipeline surveillance firm, for constructing and furnishing a modern press centre for journalists in Warri. It also commended the Delta State Governor for commissioning the state-of-the-art facility, describing it as a significant boost to professional journalism in the region.
Additionally, the chapel paid glowing tribute to veteran journalist Prince Sola Adebayo for his visionary leadership and generosity, crediting him with initiating the idea that birthed the NUJ Press Centre project.
The Union further expressed gratitude to the Managing Director of TSSNL, High Chief Kestin Pondi, and Dr. Paul Benenimibo, Registrar of the Nigeria Maritime University, Okerenkoko, for their instrumental roles in facilitating the construction of the landmark media facility.
