Soludo Under Fire: IPOB Accuses Anambra Governor of Stigmatizing Igbo Youths
The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) has strongly criticised Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Soludo, for his recent comments allegedly linking the surge in kidnappings across the South-East to Igbo youths.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The group described Soludo’s remarks as inflammatory and unfounded, warning that such statements could endanger innocent lives and further escalate tensions in the region.
Governor Soludo, while addressing members of the Anambra community in Maryland, United States, reportedly claimed that 99% of kidnappers arrested in the state were of Igbo origin, not Fulani herdsmen.
In a statement issued on Thursday, IPOB’s spokesperson, Emma Powerful, condemned the governor’s position, saying it effectively gives security forces and alleged Fulani-backed militias a pretext to target and persecute innocent young people in the South-East.
“The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), under the leadership of our indomitable and unlawfully detained leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, calls the urgent attention of the international community, diplomatic corps, human rights organisations, and defenders of truth and justice to the latest reckless, provocative, and potentially genocidal statement made by Anambra State Governor, Professor Charles Chukwuma Soludo,” the statement read in part.
IPOB warned that the governor’s unsubstantiated claims could be used to justify extrajudicial killings, arbitrary arrests, and sweeping security operations against Igbo youths.
“Why would a governor, confronted by repeated Fulani herdsmen invasions and military brutalities in his region, turn around to indict his own people without a shred of evidence?” IPOB asked.
The group further accused Soludo of sacrificing the safety and dignity of his people to curry favour with the political establishment in Abuja, suggesting that his comments were driven by personal ambition.
IPOB challenged the governor to provide a single verified investigation or court conviction to support his assertion. The group reiterated its commitment to peaceful agitation and denied any links to criminality.
The statement also alleged that Soludo has done little to secure the release of IPOB leader, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, despite making previous public statements in support of his freedom.
In conclusion, IPOB urged the people of Anambra and the entire South-East to remain vigilant and discerning, stressing the importance of recognising those who truly stand for their interests and those who do not.
