The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa. The Chief of Staff office had been scrapped in December 2024 following the removal of Shehu Wada Sagagi, who was subsequently redeployed as Commissioner for Commerce and Investment. The revival of the position, according to NIVONEWS, signals a renewed push for streamlined coordination across the state’s executive machinery.

Dr. Sani, a distinguished medical doctor and retired Permanent Secretary with over 40 years of service, was until now the Special Adviser to the Governor on Civil Service Matters. An alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and Bayero University, Kano, he also holds the esteemed mni designation from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru.

He has served in several high-level capacities, including Director General of the Ministries of Health and Commerce, Executive Secretary, and Permanent Secretary in multiple agencies. His clinical leadership roles at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital and Muhammad Abdullahi Wase Specialist Hospital further underscore his vast experience. According to NIVONEWS, Dr. Sani has played pivotal roles in shaping civil service reform and health policy in Kano, participating in over 40 national and state-level committees and representing Nigeria in numerous international fora.

In a parallel announcement, Governor Yusuf appointed retired Major General Mohammed Sani as the new Director General of Special Services, Government House. A veteran of the Nigerian Army with more than 35 years of service, Maj. Gen. Sani is celebrated for his expertise in peacekeeping, conflict resolution, and strategic command roles.

Both appointments, which take immediate effect, are seen as central to Governor Yusuf’s reformist drive. The governor congratulated the appointees and urged them to deploy their vast experience in advancing his administration’s developmental priorities.
