Redemption or Strategy? Adoke Says He’s Forgiven Everyone Behind His Legal Troubles

According to NIVONEWS, Adoke made this revelation in Abuja on Thursday during the official launch of his memoir, OPL245: Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Nigerian Oil Block.
Addressing guests at the event, Adoke clarified that his intention in writing the book was not to attack or settle scores with those who targeted him, but rather to set the record straight regarding his role in the OPL 245 transaction.
He insisted that his actions were lawful and carried out in the national interest, stating that he merely executed the constitutional directives of the then-president concerning the Oil Prospecting License 245, a prized Nigerian oil asset. Despite his legal position, Adoke lamented that he was unfairly vilified and made the scapegoat of a high-stakes corruption scandal.
According to NIVONEWS, the former minister sharply criticised the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), accusing its operatives of misconduct in their handling of the case.
“I did not write this book to malign anyone,” Adoke explained. “Rather, I seek to offer clarity on a transaction that was intended to protect Nigeria’s economic interests in hydrocarbon exploitation. Although I wasn’t involved in the original 2006 agreement that predated my appointment, I was unjustly demonised by both state and non-state actors for implementing the 2011 agreement in my official capacity.”
He continued, “Despite the public humiliation, reputational damage, and the toll on my family life, I was simply fulfilling my legal duty. Nonetheless, I have chosen the path of forgiveness.”
According to NIVONEWS, Adoke also praised former EFCC Chairman Ibrahim Magu for personally reaching out to apologise for his role in the saga.
“With the launch of this book, I can confidently say that I respect Ibrahim Magu for having the courage to come forward, apologise, and express regret. I have forgiven him—and all others involved in my travails,” Adoke stated.
