Omokri Slams El-Rufai: ‘Failing to Convince Your Own Son? Forget Leading a Coalition!’”
Political analyst and former presidential aide, Reno Omokri, has taken a swipe at former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai and other leaders of the emerging opposition coalition, questioning their credibility and capacity to challenge the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 elections.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during an appearance on ARISE NEWS on Wednesday, Omokri dismissed the African Democratic Congress (ADC)-led coalition as a gathering of “disgruntled elements and political has-beens,” lacking the structure, influence, and cohesion required to mount a serious challenge to the ruling party.
Describing the alliance as a “losers’ convention,” Omokri scoffed at comparisons between the coalition and the 2013 merger that birthed the APC. He argued that unlike the APC—which had sitting governors, lawmakers, and a formidable national presence—the ADC coalition is comprised of figures with little or no control over any political territory.
“These are just malcontents—disgruntled people—losers coming together to form a losers’ convention,” Omokri said. “The ADC is nothing like the APC. When the APC was formed, it had governors, lawmakers, even the Speaker of the House of Reps. This new coalition has none of that.”
Omokri ridiculed El-Rufai’s influence, pointing out that even the former governor’s own son openly supports President Bola Tinubu’s re-election. “El-Rufai’s son was at the event where Tinubu was endorsed for a second term,” he said. “If you can’t convince your own first son to back your political movement, how can you expect to convince an entire nation?”
On Peter Obi’s role in the opposition realignment, Omokri questioned the former Labour Party presidential candidate’s strategic clarity. “Peter Obi is still struggling within his party,” he noted. “He doesn’t seem sure whether he has the political capital to replicate his 2023 momentum. He’s saying he’s still in the Labour Party, which only adds to the confusion.”
Responding to claims that a united front could have defeated Tinubu in 2023, Omokri dismissed such assertions as wishful thinking. “There is no real coalition—just a clash of egos,” he said. “And I can tell you, the presidential ticket is likely heading to a northerner.”
