Yaccarino announced her departure in a post on X on Wednesday, offering no explicit reason for stepping down but hinting that the platform was poised for a new phase following its recent acquisition by Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI.
“After two incredible years, I’ve decided to step down as CEO of ,” she wrote. “When Elon Musk first shared his vision with me, I knew it was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to be part of something extraordinary.”
She expressed deep gratitude to Musk for entrusting her with leading the platform’s mission of defending free speech, rebuilding the company, and steering its transformation into the “Everything App.”
Reflecting on her tenure, Yaccarino applauded the X team for achieving a historic turnaround, highlighting progress in user safety and rebuilding advertiser confidence.
“We began by prioritising the safety of our users—especially children—and worked tirelessly to regain trust from advertisers. From pioneering tools like Community Notes to launching X Money soon, our accomplishments have been groundbreaking,” she added.
Yaccarino described X as “a true digital town square” and praised users, partners, and employees for helping shape it into a global cultural powerhouse.
