Institutional Showdown! Auchi Polytechnic Publicly Rebukes Peter Obi Over Allegations
The management of the Federal Polytechnic, Auchi, has refuted claims made by former presidential candidate Peter Obi, alleging that two students lost their lives during a recent outbreak of violence at the institution.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to NIVONEWS, Obi had posted on his X handle that chaos erupted during the students’ union election last Saturday, leading to the death of two students and injuring several others.
However, in a statement released on Tuesday, the institution described Obi’s assertion as entirely false.
Angela Egele, the school’s Director of Public Relations, stated that there was sufficient security presence during the election process to ensure order and safety.
“The attention of the management of Auchi Polytechnic has been drawn to a statement credited to Mr. Peter Obi, alleging that two students died and several were injured during the recently held Student Union Government (SUG) elections,” Egele said.
Citing Obi’s original post, which read: “I watched the heartbreaking video that showed students in Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State running for their lives as they WERE BEING SHOT AT during their student election yesterday, which left 2 students dead and several injured…” the institution firmly denied the claims.
“The management categorically states that these assertions are false, misleading, and completely baseless,” Egele maintained.
She clarified that no student was shot, injured, or killed during the election, which was eventually declared inconclusive due to observed irregularities.
Egele also noted that various security agencies—including the Nigerian Army, Police, Civil Defence Corps, Department of State Services, Mobile Police, and local vigilante groups—were deployed to maintain peace during the exercise.
The polytechnic called on the public to disregard Obi’s comments, reaffirming its commitment to providing a safe and secure academic environment.
“Auchi Polytechnic remains unwavering in its responsibility to ensure the safety and wellbeing of all students and staff,” the statement concluded.
