Political Earthquake Looms as Kwankwaso Faces Fierce Push to Dump NNPP for Coalition Bloc
As Nigeria edges closer to the 2027 general elections, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and the 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has emerged as the subject of fierce political overtures from both the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and a rising opposition coalition.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Party insiders revealed to Daily Post that leading figures within the northern opposition bloc are intensifying efforts to bring Kwankwaso into their alliance, viewing him as a pivotal force in the next presidential race.
A senior NNPP official, speaking on Sunday, disclosed: “There is mounting pressure on Kwankwaso to join the coalition. Of course, President Tinubu’s camp is also reaching out to him. But truth be told, people are becoming increasingly reluctant to align themselves with this current administration.”
Despite being courted from both ends of the political spectrum, Kwankwaso is said to be weighing his political options carefully.
“As it stands, our leader, Senator Kwankwaso, is yet to make a final decision on whether to join the emerging opposition coalition or side with the APC,” the source added. “However, his leanings appear to favour the coalition because, frankly, the APC has lost much of its political credibility.”
The source hinted that the direction of these strategic engagements would become more apparent in the coming months as the 2027 campaign season gains momentum.
Kwankwaso’s influence remains substantial, largely due to his political stronghold in Kano State—a high-stakes battleground with one of the largest voting populations in Nigeria.
“Right now, Kwankwaso is the political bride everyone wants,” the insider said. “Kano plays a decisive role in elections, and whoever secures Kwankwaso’s support likely secures the state.”
He added that Kwankwaso commands a robust grassroots following and widespread loyalty across northern Nigeria.
In a related development, Kano State NNPP Chairman, Hashimu Dungurawa, reaffirmed the party’s unwavering loyalty to Kwankwaso, stating that the party base would follow his lead unconditionally.
“We are his loyal followers—wherever he leads, we will follow. There is no question about it,” Dungurawa told Daily Post.

Betrayal Exposed? Faction Demands Police Probe Into Fraudulent Leadership Claims Sent To INEC!.

Key aspects of the petition include:
-
Allegations of False Representation: The petition challenges a November 3, 2025, letter sent to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which falsely claimed that the PDP National Working Committee (NWC) had replaced acting national chairman Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum with Mohammed.
-
Contradictory NWC Records: Petitioners assert that the NWC’s November 1, 2025, emergency meeting actually resulted in the suspension of Anyanwu and three other officers due to alleged anti-party activities, and no record exists to support the claim that Damagum was suspended or Mohammed appointed.
-
Legal Precedents: The lawyers referenced an October 10, 2024, Federal High Court judgment that recognizes Damagum as the acting national chairman and prohibits INEC from accepting documents without his signature. Furthermore, they noted that the Court of Appeal upheld the NWC’s suspension of Anyanwu on March 9, 2026.
-
Call for Institutional Review: The petitioners have requested that the IGP investigate how INEC processed the contested November 3 letter despite being aware of the existing court orders and the NWC’s official resolutions.
-
Stated Objective: Counsel for the petitioner emphasized that the action is intended to address the integrity of public institutions and prevent the use of misleading internal party documentation, noting their readiness to provide supporting court judgments and party records to the police.
