Hip-Hop Showdown: Nicki Minaj Says Jay-Z Withholding $200M Owed to Her
American rap superstar Nicki Minaj has publicly alleged that hip-hop icon and business mogul Jay-Z owes her between $100 million and $200 million related to her stake in the music streaming platform Tidal.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to reports, the explosive claim was made on Tuesday, July 8, with Minaj expressing deep frustration over what she described as an unresolved financial obligation tied to her equity in the company.
Minaj was among a high-profile group of artists—including Beyoncé, Rihanna, J. Cole, and Ye (formerly Kanye West)—who were each granted a 3% equity stake in Tidal at its 2015 relaunch. At the time, the streaming service was reportedly valued at $56 million.
In 2021, Tidal was acquired by Square Inc., the fintech company owned by Twitter co-founder Jack Dorsey, in a deal worth $302 million. Despite the sale, Minaj asserted that she and other original stakeholders retained their shares.
However, she claimed she was offered a mere $1 million for her stake—far below the estimated $9 million it should have fetched based on the sale valuation. The rapper alleged that the total unpaid amount now potentially falls between $100 million and $200 million, warning that the debt is accruing interest.
Minaj called on Jay-Z to settle what she described as a “karmic debt”, stating, “We’ve calculated about 100–200MM so far. #JayZ call me to settle this karmic debt. It’s only collecting more interest. You still in my TOP 5 tho. Let’s get it, nigga.”
She further criticized fans and media who refer to Jay-Z by his nickname “Hov,” calling it blasphemous and stating, “Anyone still calling him Hov will answer to God.”
In a show of goodwill, Minaj vowed to dedicate a portion of the money, if paid, to sponsor her fans’ education through her Student Of The Game charity initiative. “I’m going to use some of the money #JayZ owes me to send some of my Barbz to college, pay their school fees & student loans,” she tweeted.
As of now, Jay-Z has not responded to the allegations.
