Abuja Residents Left Behind by Wike’s Grand Projects – Senator Kingibe Fires Warning Shot

The Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, has asserted that the majority of Abuja residents are not reaping the benefits of the infrastructure projects being implemented by the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In an interview with Channels Television, Kingibe accused the minister of worsening living conditions in the capital since assuming office.

While acknowledging Wike’s focus on road construction, the senator criticised his development approach for failing to address the core needs of the population.

She questioned the prioritisation of projects like the renovation of the International Conference Centre (ICC) at a time when insecurity is on the rise and workers at the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) are allegedly owed salaries.

“Yes, he’s constructing roads,” Kingibe noted, “but we have no functioning public transport system. Most residents of Abuja do not benefit from the roads.”

She further criticised Wike for terminating the contracts of street-sweeping women—many of whom are widows and economically vulnerable—without proper consultation or a replacement plan.

“These women have served through multiple ministers and were retained out of compassion and necessity. Previous ministers, when advised, kept them on,” she said.

“But the current minister dismissed them all despite repeated appeals—and has yet to replace them. Many FCT residents now feel that this minister has made life more difficult rather than better.”

He added that the project is not only focused on land recovery but also on boosting agricultural output and improving livelihoods in affected communities.

Tinubu Signs ₦68.32trn 2026 Budget, Extends 2025 Spending Plan To June.

President Tinubu has given full backing for the implementation of the ₦68.32 trillion 2026 budget after signing the Appropriation Bill passed by the National Assembly into law.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.
