The announcement was made in a statement issued on Monday by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, who noted that the approval aligns with the Federal Government’s broader agenda to support the growth of indigenous airlines.

Enugu Air was formally unveiled on Monday, July 7, 2025, by the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, during a launch ceremony attended by Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah.

The new carrier is kicking off operations with three Embraer 170 aircraft, each seating about 76 passengers.

For now, Enugu Air is operating under a transitional partnership with XEJet, which has been authorised to conduct flights on its behalf pending the completion of Enugu Air’s Air Operator Certificate (AOC) process.

According to the NCAA, this interim arrangement was made possible through a completed variation process, which added the Embraer 170 aircraft to XEJet’s existing Operations Specifications (OpsSpecs).

“Enugu Air has entered into an operational partnership with XEJet while it finalises its AOC certification,” the NCAA stated.

“XEJet has successfully completed the variation procedure required to include the EMB 170 aircraft in its OpsSpecs, as per NCAA’s five-phase certification protocol.”

Currently, flight bookings for Enugu Air are facilitated through XEJet’s platform, with users redirected from Enugu Air’s official website.

The regulatory agency emphasised that the licensing approval aligns with the Aviation Minister’s 5-Point Agenda aimed at strengthening indigenous airlines, improving the ease of doing business, and deepening reforms in the aviation sector.

“The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) hereby approves the commencement of Enugu Air’s domestic flight operations, consistent with the Honourable Minister’s vision to grow homegrown airlines,” the statement said.

The NCAA reaffirmed its commitment to upholding stringent standards of safety, security, and consumer protection while ensuring a level playing field within the aviation industry.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
