Renewed Hope in Action: Tinubu’s Nod to Ogbuku’s Vision Wins Over Former Militants

Former agitators in the Niger Delta have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his unwavering support of the Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, praising the alignment of Ogbuku’s vision with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
The ex-agitators also applauded President Tinubu for disregarding what they described as “campaigns of calumny” orchestrated by individuals determined to derail the positive trajectory of the NDDC under Ogbuku’s leadership.
Speaking on behalf of the ex-agitators, Nature Dumale Kieghe, pioneer Secretary of the First Phase Ex-Agitators and former Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Programme’s Communication Committee, highlighted the MD’s flagship initiative—the Light-Up Niger Delta project—which has brought solar-powered streetlights to numerous rural communities across the region, transforming the lives of elderly and underserved residents.
Kieghe noted that Ogbuku has been instrumental in restoring hope among the region’s youth through bold empowerment programmes, including the Youth Internship Scheme that pays a monthly stipend of ₦50,000 to 10,000 young beneficiaries.
“Through Ogbuku’s leadership, the NDDC is addressing the region’s infrastructural deficits with commendable speed,” he said. “Major projects like the Ogbia-Nembe Road, electrification initiatives, schools, health facilities, and skill acquisition centres have been completed and commissioned under his watch.”
He further described Ogbuku’s commitment to the completion of landmark infrastructure like the Bonny Ring Road and bridges as “legendary,” and lauded the Commission’s strides in providing functional liaison offices in member states—bridging the gap between the Commission and local communities.
“Critics once doubted Ogbuku’s capacity to deliver, but today he has proven them wrong,” Kieghe stated. “Nearly every community now has solar-powered lights, a first in the history of the NDDC. These are communities whose residents had never even seen the inside of an NDDC office.”
He added: “President Tinubu, thank you for standing with us. Because of your support, our youths now have access to life-changing opportunities, including scholarships to study both locally and abroad. This is how you take young men off the streets.”
Kieghe called on Niger Delta stakeholders to continue backing Ogbuku and the current NDDC board, urging unity and peace as prerequisites for development.
“If every past NDDC MD had performed like Dr. Ogbuku, the Niger Delta would be far more developed today,” he said. “We pass a vote of confidence in him and the board, and we caution enemies of progress to stop their attempts to undermine him.”

Friday, August 7, 2026: After a morning departure from his residence, a requiem mass will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Oba-Ile. He will be laid to rest in a private ceremony at 12:45 p.m. at Labaluyegbe Villa, followed by a reception at Aderonmu Grammar School Field.
The Bangbola Oyewo family of the Ese-Ola Royal House remembered him as a beloved family man, traditional leader, and an inspiration to generations of theatre practitioners. His passing is regarded as the end of an era for the Nigerian theatre community, where he served as an Associate Professor of Drama and a long-standing mentor.
