Don’t Deceive Nigerians Again – YPP Chair Dismantles Opposition Coalition’s Credibility

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s The Morning Brief on Monday, Amakiri said that while Nigeria urgently requires a change in leadership, the current coalition lacks the moral authority and vision to deliver genuine transformation.
“Nigeria is in desperate need of a political leadership overhaul,” Amakiri stated. “But how do you expect a group composed of 85 percent of the same individuals who contributed to our current national woes to lead us to a better future?”
He questioned the integrity of the coalition, branding it a congregation of “recycled political elites” whose only motivation is to return to power for selfish interests.
“These are the same people who had the opportunity to lead Nigeria in the past—and they failed, woefully. Now they regroup under a new name, hoping to deceive Nigerians again. It’s all about power, not progress,” he said.
Amakiri said it was ironic that some of the coalition’s key figures were once part of movements that destabilised governance, only to now pose as reformers.
“They once threatened Nigeria’s sovereignty. Today, they claim to be agents of change. It’s the same script they used in 2015—no agenda, no policy roadmap—just an obsession with grabbing power,” he added.
The YPP Chairman warned that unless Nigerians become more discerning, the cycle of failed leadership will continue.
“Every election cycle, they rebrand themselves with a new coalition name. It’s like a ping-pong game, while Nigerians suffer. They’re banking on the public’s silence or docility. But it’s time we broke that cycle.”
Amakiri maintained that the YPP offers a different and more realistic political alternative, with a focus on gaining legislative power as a foundation for true reform.
“Our strategy is deliberate. We’re not in a rush to produce a president. Our priority is to control the parliament, where real change begins. That’s the sustainable path forward,” he explained.
He concluded by urging citizens to hold all political actors accountable and to vote based on track records rather than empty promises.
