2027 Elections: NNPP Declares War on Political Mediocrity, Says ‘Do Not Reward Failure’

In a statement issued on Sunday, the NNPP’s Southwest leader, Olufemi Ajadi Oguntoyinbo, urged Nigerians to vote with discernment in 2027, insisting that the hardship facing citizens today starkly contrasts with the lofty pledges made during the last election cycle.
“Parties promised to better the lives of Nigerians, but in reality, they’ve compounded their misery,” Oguntoyinbo said. “It is time we stopped falling for political rhetoric and start evaluating track records before casting our votes.”
He accused the APC of betraying its much-touted “Renewed Hope Agenda,” describing it as a hollow slogan that has become synonymous with poverty and despair.
“They vowed to uplift the poor, yet today, many Nigerians are languishing in extreme hardship—some reduced to begging just to survive. Workers’ salaries can no longer meet basic needs,” he lamented.
Oguntoyinbo condemned the APC-led administration for widening the gap between promises and delivery, stating that more Nigerians have fallen below the poverty line since the party took office.
He pointed to the removal of fuel subsidies without adequate cushioning measures as a major trigger for inflation, rising transport costs, and unaffordable fuel prices.
“The policy has worsened the living conditions of ordinary Nigerians. Prices of goods and services have skyrocketed, and yet, there are no meaningful palliatives to ease the burden,” he noted.
The NNPP chieftain also decried the weakening of the Naira, calling it disgraceful that the Nigerian currency now trades poorly against the CFA of smaller West African countries.
He called on the federal government to take urgent steps to stabilise the economy and strengthen the Naira, warning that continued inaction could further erode public trust in governance.
“Nigerians are watching. Those who pushed the country into this hardship must not be rewarded with another mandate,” Oguntoyinbo declared. “The 2027 election must be about performance, not empty slogans.”
