You’re a National Disgrace!” — Bode George Blasts David Mark Over ADC Opposition Alliance
A former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has sharply criticised former Senate President David Mark for turning his back on the party during its moment of crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
George accused Mark of being complicit in the current troubles facing the PDP, alleging that he orchestrated the controversial national convention that sowed the seeds of disunity within the party.
This backlash follows a recent meeting in Abuja involving prominent figures such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, David Mark, and former governors Sule Lamido (Jigawa) and Aminu Tambuwal (Sokoto), among others. The group had called on PDP members and other Nigerians to align with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in a bid to “rescue the country” in the 2027 general elections.
Reading a communiqué after the meeting, Mark said, “The meeting encourages all well-meaning PDP members and other patriotic Nigerians to join the coalition. All coalition partners must be united on issues of national unity, democracy, national security, the economy, and the political will to eradicate institutionalised corruption.”
In an interview with Punch, however, George condemned the statement as “deeply disgraceful,” expressing disappointment in Mark’s conduct.
“I’m thoroughly ashamed that such a statement came from David Mark, urging PDP members to defect to the ADC. It is not just disappointing—it’s disgraceful. I’m heartbroken,” George said. “You abandon the very party that birthed and nurtured you because of a crisis? Every political family has its moments of turbulence, but you don’t jump ship.”
George, himself a retired Navy Commodore, did not hold back in his personal criticism of Mark.
“This is not just arrogance—this is dishonourable. For someone who is a retired Army General, his actions are akin to that of a rolling stone that gathers no moss. I was there when the party made him its consensus candidate for Senate President. Ironically, he chaired the same convention that led to the current disarray within our ranks.”
He went on to describe Mark, Atiku, and other defectors as ingrates who are betraying the legacy of the party’s founding fathers.
“These men are trampling on the sacrifices of our elders who gave everything to build this party. For David Mark to say the PDP is now a shadow of itself is not only disrespectful—it’s hypocritical,” George said. “He helped create the very shadow he’s now complaining about. And coming from a military man trained to respect institutions and traditions, his conduct is all the more shameful. What will they tell their children?”
