The bodies of Portuguese international footballer Diogo Jota and his younger brother, André, received a solemn and emotional reception on Thursday night as grieving supporters gathered outside the Capela de Ressurreição in Gondomar, northern Portugal.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

According to the Daily Mail, mourners wept openly as hearses carrying the brothers’ coffins arrived shortly after 11 p.m. ahead of a wake scheduled for the following morning.

The two brothers tragically lost their lives in the early hours of Thursday following a fatal car crash near Cernadilla, just across the Spanish border. Reports indicate that the Lamborghini Huracán they were travelling in suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle. The supercar veered off the A-52 motorway, flipped several times, and exploded in flames, killing both on the spot.

Spanish government official Ángel Blanco confirmed the brothers were already deceased by the time emergency responders arrived at the scene. The crash also sparked a fire in the surrounding vegetation, which was quickly contained by firefighters. Authorities have yet to confirm which brother was behind the wheel at the time.

Local parish priest, Father José Macedo, told CNN that the wake would commence at 8 a.m. on Friday, with the funeral service set for Saturday morning at 10 a.m. at Igreja Matriz, the Catholic church adjacent to the chapel.

“We are here to honour their lives, to mourn with the family, and to hold onto the hope that faith provides,” said Macedo.

Earlier in the day, the remains were transferred from a funeral home in Puebla de Sanabria, Spain, where the bodies had initially been taken. Diogo Jota’s agent, Jorge Mendes, was seen accompanying the bereaved family and supporting the footballer’s mother as they arrived at the funeral home.

“Diogo was not just an exceptional athlete but a remarkable human being—an exemplary son, husband, and professional. This loss is deeply painful,” Mendes said, visibly shaken.

The funeral procession eventually reached Gondomar late at night, just weeks after the 28-year-old Liverpool star had celebrated his wedding to longtime partner Rute Cardoso in the same city, surrounded by loved ones.

Reports say Diogo and André, 26, had been en route to Santander to board a ferry to the United Kingdom, choosing not to fly due to Diogo’s recent lung surgery
