The event—convened by respected elder statesmen under the banner of The Patriots, in partnership with the Nigerian Political Summit Group (NPSG)—will hold at Transcorp Hilltop Hotel and draw participants from across the political, traditional, religious, and professional spectrum.

According to Professor Anthony Kila, spokesperson of the Summit Joint Secretariat, preparations have intensified as the organisers continue nationwide consultations in view of the summit’s critical importance to Nigeria’s constitutional future.

A delegate breakdown shows that each state governor is expected to nominate 24 representatives, while ethnic nationality movements will each be allotted up to 20 delegates.

The summit will deliberate on 10 major constitutional issues under the theme:
“Actualising a Constitutional Democracy that Works for All in Nigeria.”
A team of experts—including seasoned moderators, rapporteurs, and resource persons—will oversee the discussions and compile the outcomes into a comprehensive stakeholders’ legislative bill, which will be submitted to the National Assembly as part of the ongoing constitutional review process.

The Coordinating Committee for the summit, inaugurated in Lagos on May 1, is co-chaired by Senators Aminu Tambuwal and Otunba Gbenga Daniel, both former governors, who are actively mobilising key stakeholders—including governors and top federal officials.

Prof. Kila confirmed that at the close of proceedings on Thursday, July 17, the summit leadership, alongside members of the coordinating committee, will pay a visit to President Bola Tinubu to formally present the summit’s report. The President of the Senate and Speaker of the House of Representatives are also expected to be part of this presentation, underscoring the importance of Federal Government’s endorsement and collaboration.

Former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan have confirmed their participation and will address the gathering with insights from their tenure and perspectives on constitutional evolution. General Yakubu Gowon is also expected, pending final confirmation.

In addition, prominent traditional and religious leaders from across the six geopolitical zones—including the Sultan of Sokoto, Ooni of Ife, Obi of Onitsha, Emir of Kano, and respected Muslim and Christian clerics—will deliver goodwill messages to set the tone for national unity and inclusive dialogue.
