Obi Under Fire! Labour Party Demands His Exit in 48 Hours Over Alleged Anti-Party Moves

Published

The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has given Peter Obi, its 2023 presidential candidate, a 48-hour ultimatum to officially resign from the party following his alignment with the new opposition coalition under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Obi was formally introduced on Wednesday as one of the key political figures backing the ADC-led alliance aimed at unseating President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.

However, in a statement issued on Thursday in Abuja, Labour Party National Publicity Secretary, Obiora Ifoh, denounced the coalition as a congregation of “power-hungry individuals” and accused Obi of political double-dealing.

“We’re aware that Peter Obi has been holding a series of secret meetings with some of our members, persuading them to join him in his new platform. Fortunately, many have declined,” Ifoh said.

He emphasized that the Labour Party has no affiliation with the coalition and warned against harbouring individuals pursuing conflicting political interests.

“Labour Party is not a member of the so-called coalition. Therefore, any of our members who aligns with it must resign from the party within 48 hours,” Ifoh declared.

He also dismissed Obi’s repeated calls for a “new Nigeria” as hollow rhetoric, claiming the movement is being hijacked by “recycled, frustrated, and desperate politicians.”

“The majority of Nigerians, especially the youth—who make up nearly 70 percent of the population—are yearning for real change. The Labour Party remains the only credible platform to achieve that vision,” Ifoh asserted.

He urged members of the party to remain steadfast, assuring them that the Abure-led leadership is dedicated to building a genuinely progressive, youth-focused political alternative.

Obi recently aligned with a formidable list of political leaders—including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufai, Rauf Aregbesola, and David Mark—under the ADC umbrella, in what observers have described as a major third-force coalition ahead of 2027. At the coalition’s unveiling, David Mark and Aregbesola were named interim national chairman and secretary, respectively.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.
