Enough of Old Faces!” – Yesufu Rallies ADC Coalition to Embrace New Generation
Renowned socio-political activist, Aisha Yesufu, has expressed strong reservations about the composition of the newly formed African Democratic Congress (ADC) opposition coalition, urging its leadership to ensure genuine inclusion of women and young people in key decision-making roles.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Yesufu, a prominent supporter of Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, made her appeal in a series of posts on her X (formerly Twitter) handle on Wednesday.
“Dear Coalition (ADC), women leader and youth leader roles cannot be the only positions set aside for women and young people,” she wrote. “A table dominated by the older male generation cannot be the sole space where decisions are made going forward!”
She insisted that women and youth must be part of the core leadership structure, not merely token representatives or afterthoughts.
Yesufu encouraged active engagement from young Nigerians and women, stressing the power of numbers and the need for innovation in politics.
“Dear women and youths, now is the time to show up in force. Raise your voices. Join the process. Be part of the leadership structure! Become delegates. Join as floor members. Overwhelm the system—for good! Bring fresh, out-of-the-box ideas,” she charged.
Her remarks came shortly after the official launch of the ADC as the new platform for the opposition coalition aiming to unseat President Bola Tinubu’s administration in the 2027 general elections.
At the unveiling, held at the Shehu Musa Yar’Adua Centre in Abuja, former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola were named interim National Chairman and Secretary of the coalition, respectively.
According to Ralph Nwosu, the founding National Chairman of the ADC, the party’s leadership voluntarily stepped aside to give room for the new team to chart a fresh political course.
