The newly commissioned fleet, unveiled on Tuesday in Abuja, comprises 20 buses, 50 Jet Lander pickup trucks, and 14 Jet Mover Executive buses. The initiative was executed in collaboration with the Presidential CNG Initiative (Pi-CNG) and formally launched by the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle.

Describing the rollout as a strategic leap forward, Matawalle said the move promotes energy sustainability, cost efficiency, and environmental responsibility.

“This achievement directly reflects President Bola Tinubu’s vision of repositioning Nigeria as a global leader in clean energy adoption,” he noted. “It underscores our commitment to placing the public sector—and particularly our armed forces—at the forefront of climate-responsible governance.”

Matawalle emphasised the need to harness Nigeria’s abundant natural gas reserves for military logistics, calling the transition both logical and forward-thinking.

“Shifting a portion of the military’s fleet to CNG not only reduces fuel expenses but also contributes meaningfully to efforts aimed at cutting greenhouse gas emissions and meeting international climate commitments,” he added.

He commended the Armed Forces for leading the public sector’s shift toward cleaner energy and called for the development of CNG infrastructure, including refueling stations across military installations, as well as training programs to equip personnel with the technical expertise needed to sustain the initiative.

“This transition must be deliberate and long-term. The military must embed sustainability into its logistics and procurement systems,” Matawalle urged.

Also speaking at the commissioning, the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, praised the project as part of the military’s broader transformation drive.

“This transition highlights our dedication to modernising military infrastructure, improving efficiency, and aligning with global best practices,” Musa said.

He noted that beyond operational gains, the initiative also aligns with Nigeria’s broader national development objectives.

Michael Oluwagbemi, Coordinator of the Presidential CNG Initiative, lauded the Armed Forces for being early adopters of the technology.

“The Nigerian Army pioneered the CNG rollout with 30 vehicles and has now scaled up to 100,” he said. “We’re expanding training and vehicle conversion programmes to transition over 5,000 military vehicles to CNG in the coming phases.”

The commissioning represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s clean energy journey, positioning the military as a frontline champion of the country’s transition to a more sustainable and cost-effective energy future.

The Association of Table Water Producers in Kano State has announced a new price for sachet water, commonly known as “pure water,” citing rising production expenses.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Under the new adjustment, a bag of sachet water that previously sold for ₦220 will now have a minimum price of ₦300 across the state.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the association’s Public Relations Officer in Kano, Anas Idris Hassan, said the increase became unavoidable due to the sharp rise in the cost of key materials used in production.

He explained that essential inputs have become significantly more expensive, making it difficult for producers to continue selling at the previous rate. According to him, the cost of printing film used for packaging sachet water has climbed to about ₦3,700.

Hassan also noted that the price of gas and fuel used to power production machines has surged, reaching about ₦1,500 per litre.

Another major challenge, he said, is the persistent problem of unstable electricity supply in the state. As a result, most factories now depend heavily on generators to keep their operations running, further increasing production costs.

He described the price adjustment as a necessary step to ensure producers can continue supplying safe drinking water to residents.

Speaking on the development, the association’s Chairman, Ahmad Bala Hudu, said the decision was taken to prevent the possible collapse of the sachet water production industry in Kano.

Hudu explained that many producers have been struggling to keep their businesses afloat due to the rising cost of raw materials and energy.

Despite the increase, he warned producers not to compromise on the quality of water supplied to consumers, stressing that all members must strictly follow approved purification standards.

According to him, reverse osmosis systems and other water treatment processes must be properly maintained to guarantee the safety of the drinking water produced.

He further revealed that the association is working with health authorities to carry out regular inspections of sachet water factories across the state.

Hudu warned that any producer found violating health regulations or ignoring approved standards would be reported to the appropriate authorities.
