Nigerian music legend 2Baba has opened up about his separation from his wife of over a decade, Annie Macaulay. The couple, who got married in May 2012, went their separate ways in January 2025.

Speaking on the 234 Mzansi Podcast, the 49-year-old singer reflected on the end of their marriage, though he refrained from sharing intimate details. He emphasized that both he and Annie, 40, made genuine efforts to salvage their relationship, but ultimately had to accept that it was no longer working.

“We both tried our best. Why it didn’t work out is something I won’t discuss in public,” 2Baba said. “We have an understanding between us. Annie is an incredible woman, but things just weren’t working anymore. What used to be there disappeared, and that’s why I won’t go into it here.”

He added that while it’s always good to fight for a marriage, no one should feel compelled to remain in a union that no longer brings happiness.

“If you’ve done all you can and things still aren’t right, I don’t think anyone should be forced to stay. Only those inside the marriage truly know what they’re going through,” he said.

“You shouldn’t torture yourself to meet society’s expectations. Many people have died sad, living in emotional bondage just to please others.”

Addressing the controversial topic of fidelity, 2Baba shared his personal view that it is “biologically impossible” for men to remain sexually loyal to one woman.

“I’ll speak for myself: a man isn’t naturally wired to be sexually exclusive,” he said. “He can love and respect one woman, but sexually, it’s a different matter. Some men may choose to be faithful, but biologically, it’s not our default setting.”

According to the singer, understanding this reality could save people from heartbreak and stress. “So many problems arise from pretending this isn’t true.”

Following the split, 2Baba has moved on with Natasha Osawaru, a member of the Edo State House of Assembly. He confirmed their relationship and proposed to her in February 2025.
