This initiative seeks to broaden financial inclusion for informal sector workers, particularly women, who serve as vital contributors to local economies.

“Providing credit to women isn’t just a moral imperative—it’s a sound economic strategy,” stated Uzoma Nwagba, Managing Director of the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP).

He noted that women consistently demonstrate stronger credit performance, with higher repayment rates than their male counterparts. “With 66.7% of our executive team and half of our management being women, this partnership reflects our core belief that empowering women fosters stronger, more resilient communities,” Nwagba added.

During the official launch held Thursday at Ariaria Market, Aba, over 1,000 women gathered, many of whom received consumer credit of up to ₦100,000 to support their businesses—at interest rates reduced by 50% compared to prevailing market rates. Speaking on behalf of CREDICORP, Aisha Abdulahi, Executive Director for Credit and Portfolio Management, said the programme allows market women to grow their micro-enterprises with affordable and accessible financing, without being crippled by high-interest burdens.

Oloyede said many of the issues recorded during the mock exercise were due to poor assessment of centres by some technical officials.

He further stated that incentive packages would be awarded to teams that perform exceptionally, particularly in handling exam materials and submitting timely reports.

Reiterating JAMB’s zero-tolerance stance on malpractice, he warned candidates against bringing prohibited items into examination halls.
