The Imo State Police Command has announced the arrest of a 42-year-old woman suspected of child trafficking and the rescue of 12 children believed to have been stolen.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday in Owerri by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Henry Okoye.

According to Okoye, the suspect, a native of Umudim Ohekelem in Ngor-Okpala Local Government Area, was apprehended on June 20 along the Owerri-Aba Expressway during a routine stop-and-search operation.

He explained that the arrest led to the discovery of a disturbing child trafficking ring allegedly involved in exploiting minors and forcing them into street begging in Aba, Abia State.

“Upon her arrest, the suspect was found in the company of several children whose physical appearance and condition immediately raised red flags,” Okoye stated.

The case has since been handed over to the IGP’s X-Squad Unit for a thorough investigation.

During interrogation, the suspect allegedly confessed to transporting children from Ngor-Okpala to Aba for the purpose of street begging. She further claimed that the proceeds from this activity were regularly sent to a motherless babies’ home in Okenyi, located in Eche Local Government Area of Rivers State, where she claimed to be employed.

Okoye added that the rescued children, aged between five and thirteen, are all from different communities within Ngor-Okpala LGA.

“The children are currently in protective custody, and efforts are underway — in partnership with relevant child welfare agencies — to identify and reunite them with their families,” he said.

Commissioner of Police, Aboki Danjuma, strongly condemned all acts of child trafficking and warned that anyone found culpable will face the full weight of the law. He also reaffirmed the command’s dedication to protecting the rights and welfare of every child in the state.

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
