Major Drug Bust in Bauchi: NDLEA Nabs 127 Suspects, Seizes 1.2 Tons of Illicit Substances

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Bauchi State Command, has arrested 127 suspected drug offenders and confiscated over 1,205 kilograms of various illicit substances between January 2025 and June 2025.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This was revealed by the State Commander, Ali Aminu, in a press statement commemorating the 2025 International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking marked annually on June 26. The statement was made available to journalists on Thursday.

According to Aminu, the 127 suspects arrested within the period include 118 men and nine women. He added that the command has secured 28 convictions, with 18 cases still pending, and 32 drug users have undergone counselling and rehabilitation—most through brief intervention programmes.

“In terms of seizures,” he said, “we recovered 874.585kg of Cannabis Sativa, 330.588kg of psychotropic substances, and 1.06g of methamphetamine (ice).”

Aminu expressed concern over the growing impact of the global drug trade, which he said continues to claim lives, strain public health systems, and fuel violence and organised crime.

He noted that this year’s theme, “The evidence is clear. Invest in prevention, break the cycle,” is especially relevant in Nigeria’s current climate.

“Drug trafficking is ravaging communities with substances more potent and deadlier than ever, with criminal networks targeting the most vulnerable, particularly women and youth,” he warned.

Aminu underscored the importance of prevention as the cornerstone of the agency’s strategy through its flagship programme, War Against Drug Abuse (WADA). He stressed that education, sensitisation, and awareness campaigns are vital tools in curbing drug abuse and trafficking.

“But this fight cannot be won by the NDLEA alone,” he said. “We need the collective support of individuals, state governments, NGOs, schools, religious organisations, and other security agencies to spread awareness and take action at every level—within families, communities, and the nation at large.”

He extended appreciation to the NDLEA Chairman/CEO, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (retd.), for his transformative leadership, which has reinvigorated the agency and inspired its personnel to intensify the war against illicit drug use.

Commander Aminu concluded with a stern warning:
“The war on drugs is ongoing. Offenders—both users and dealers—are advised to steer clear of Bauchi State or prepare to face the full weight of the law.”

According to him, the situation has heightened awareness among citizens, leading to increased political participation and a steady influx of new members into the party.

Abdullahi stated that the surge in registrations became noticeable after INEC’s decision affecting David Mark, noting that many Nigerians now have a clearer understanding of ongoing political developments.

The development comes amid an ongoing leadership crisis within the ADC, with factions led by Nafiu Bala and David Mark both laying claim to the party’s structure.

The dispute, which dates back to July 2025 following the emergence of an opposition coalition, has resulted in prolonged legal battles.
