HYPREP Credits Tinubu’s Vision for Turning Ogoni Clean-Up Into Reality, Not Rhetoric
The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has announced that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering measurable progress in Ogoniland, with significant achievements in environmental restoration, access to clean water, improved healthcare, and youth empowerment initiatives.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
HYPREP Project Coordinator, Professor Nenibarini Zabbey, revealed in Port Harcourt that President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is delivering concrete progress in Ogoniland. He made the remarks during a stakeholder engagement where he presented HYPREP’s midterm performance scorecard to a gathering of traditional rulers, political figures, youth and women’s groups, and civil society organisations from the four Ogoni local government areas.
Zabbey credited the achievements to President Tinubu’s directive to fast-track the clean-up process and ensure long-overdue environmental justice for the Ogoni people.
“The Ogoni clean-up is no longer just a concept on paper — it is steadily becoming a reality, driven by the Renewed Hope Agenda, the support of Environment Minister Balarabe Lawal, and the commitment of our people,” he said.
On environmental remediation, HYPREP has completed and certified 50 lots across 17 UNEP-assessed sites. Shoreline remediation has reached 53%, while mangrove restoration stands at 93%. Efforts are underway to designate the Ogoni mangrove wetlands as an internationally recognised Ramsar Site.
In terms of livelihood support, over 5,000 Ogonis have been trained across 20 skill areas, including aviation and the creative sector, generating more than 7,000 direct and indirect jobs. Additionally, 200 Master’s and 100 PhD students have received scholarships, with grants awarded to 250 undergraduate researchers.
For water access, 30 Ogoni communities now have potable water, with additional facilities under construction. Water Consumers Associations have been set up to promote sustainability.
In healthcare, the Bori, Nchia, and Terabor General Hospitals, as well as the Kpite Primary Health Centre, have been renovated and re-equipped. A 43-bed Cottage Hospital in Buan is 93% complete, while a 100-bed Ogoni Specialist Hospital stands at 76% completion. Meanwhile, a Centre of Excellence for Environmental Restoration is nearing completion at 85%.
HYPREP is also working with the World Health Organisation’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) to conduct an extensive health impact study on the Ogoni population.
Despite facing challenges such as misinformation, land disputes, and legal battles, Zabbey stressed that HYPREP’s progress continues through dialogue and inclusive engagement.
“The success of this project depends on the Ogoni people. With ownership, cooperation, and vigilance, these achievements can be protected and sustained for generations,” he stated.

Atiku Opens Up On ADC 2027 Game Plan, Says Consensus Candidate Comes First.
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has said the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will first pursue a consensus arrangement before considering a primary election for its 2027 presidential ticket.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Atiku made this known during an interview on Arise Television on Wednesday while discussing the party’s leadership and strategy ahead of the next general election.
He said he is open to backing a consensus candidate if that becomes the party’s collective decision, stressing that such support should not be interpreted as stepping aside.
“It is not about stepping aside, but whether I am willing to support, and yes, I will,” Atiku said.
According to him, the ADC’s first priority is to build internal unity and reach an agreement among stakeholders before considering a competitive primary process.
“Our first option will be to work out a consensus. If that doesn’t happen, then of course we will explore other options. And yes, I will support whoever eventually emerges,” he stated.
Atiku also expressed confidence in the political experience within the party, saying he believes a consensus is achievable and may make a full-scale primary contest unnecessary.
“That remains our preferred path. We will go for primaries if consensus fails, but I honestly do not expect it to get to that stage because we are dealing with mature and experienced politicians,” he added.
His comments come amid growing political consultations and coalition talks as parties begin to position themselves ahead of the 2027 general elections.
