Speaking to journalists in Port Harcourt, Zuofa emphasized that Akpabio has always shown respect towards women, asserting that, unless proven in court, the allegations are baseless.
Zuofa recounted his long-standing relationship with Akpabio, which began at the Federal Government College, Port Harcourt, where Akpabio was known for his humor, intelligence, and leadership qualities. According to Zuofa, Akpabio was a popular figure, admired for his role as a Senior Prefect and his talent as a stand-up comedian and DJ.
Zuofa also recalled attending multiple public events celebrating Akpabio, including his 50th, 59th, and 61st birthdays, and noted that his continued presence at these events reflects the depth of their friendship. He expressed disbelief at the allegations, stating that Akpabio has always conducted himself responsibly, whether as a Commissioner, Governor, Senator, Minister, or Senate President.
Addressing the specific claim of inappropriate remarks during a guided tour of Akpabio’s residence, Zuofa stated that he was present and witnessed no such behavior. He further noted that both Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan and her husband appeared comfortable throughout the visit.
Zuofa urged Akpabio to remain focused on his legislative duties, stressing that the allegations should not deter him from maintaining positive relations between the executive and legislative arms of government. He also advised the Senate President to continue supporting the president and not be discouraged by attempts to tarnish his reputation.
