2027 Shocker: PDP Dismisses Okpebholo’s 2.5 Million Votes for Tinubu as ‘Political Fantasy’

The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has slammed Governor Monday Okpebholo’s recent promise to deliver 2.5 million votes for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections, describing it as “absurd and laughable.”....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement issued on Monday by the Publicity Secretary of the PDP Caretaker Committee in Edo, Chris Osa Nehikhare, the opposition party ridiculed the pledge, saying it was preposterous coming from a man who struggled to secure just 291,000 votes in a controversial governorship election.

“The claim is not only ridiculous but also a slap in the face of Edo people,” the PDP said. “Senator Okpebholo, who barely scraped 300,000 votes in an election allegedly manipulated with heavy federal backing, now wants Nigerians to believe he can pull off 2.5 million votes for President Tinubu in 2027? That’s not just fiction—it’s an insult.”

The PDP accused the governor of benefiting from “fabricated numbers and federal interference” during the disputed September 2024 governorship election, asserting that the results were a product of “open collusion between the electoral commission and security agencies.”

“The sham election of September 2024 remains under legal challenge. The figures used to impose Okpebholo were conjured from thin air in a desperate bid to subvert the will of Edo people,” the statement continued.

It further questioned the credibility of the governor’s boast, noting that the total number of registered voters across Edo’s 18 local government areas barely exceeds 2.5 million. “Okpebholo’s claim reeks of sycophancy and desperation—clearly aimed at currying favour with his political benefactors in Abuja,” Nehikhare said.

The party condemned the governor’s focus on political posturing instead of addressing urgent issues plaguing the state.

“At a time when Edo residents are battling rising insecurity, hunger, poverty, and decaying infrastructure, Governor Okpebholo is chasing applause in Abuja with hollow rhetoric,” the PDP said. “Instead of facing governance, he’s fixated on making empty promises.”

The PDP concluded by urging President Tinubu to see through the theatrics and exaggerated claims of “political opportunists,” and encouraged the governor to shift his focus from self-promotion to delivering genuine dividends of democracy.

APC Fires Back at Adeleke Over ₦300bn LG Funds Allegation, Blames Governor for Salary Crisis....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Osun State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to claims by Governor Ademola Adeleke that local government officials under the party diverted about ₦300 billion meant for workers’ salaries.

Adeleke had made the allegation during a stakeholders’ meeting, accusing APC-controlled council officials of hijacking funds and forcing the state government to shoulder salary payments for local government workers, teachers, health staff, and pensioners for over a year.

He insisted he would not abandon workers, blaming the situation for delays in executing some state projects.

But in a statement, APC’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, dismissed the claims, accusing the governor of misleading the public and shifting blame.

The party alleged that Adeleke was responsible for the salary issues, claiming he refused to release electronic payment vouchers and other financial documents needed for processing payments.

APC also said pension-related records, leave bonuses, cooperative deductions, and other financial data had not been made available despite repeated appeals, insisting that funds were properly accounted for and available for use if approved.

The party urged pensioners and workers to seek clarification, insisting the situation could be resolved if the governor allowed due process to take place.
