Northern Governors Fume Over Plateau Massacre, Demand Swift Justice for Slain Kaduna Travellers

In a statement issued on Sunday by his Director-General of Press Affairs, Ismaila Uba Misilli, Governor Yahaya described the incident—which occurred in Mangu Local Government Area—as a “barbaric and cowardly act” that has no place in a civilized society.

“I am profoundly shocked and saddened by this horrific, inhumane attack. Such senseless violence against innocent Nigerians is intolerable and must be met with swift and decisive justice,” the governor said.

Yahaya extended his heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Kaduna State, especially the grieving families, praying for the repose of the victims and strength for their loved ones in this time of sorrow.

He commended the Plateau State Government and security agencies for their prompt response, particularly the arrest of suspects linked to the attack. He further called for a thorough investigation and swift prosecution of all individuals responsible.

“The perpetrators of this heinous crime must not go unpunished. Justice must be served swiftly—not just to hold the culprits accountable, but to reaffirm faith in the rule of law and the protection of all citizens,” he added.

Governor Yahaya urged residents of Plateau, Kaduna, and surrounding states to remain calm, law-abiding, and to resist any temptation for reprisals.

“We must not allow the evil actions of a few to divide us or spark further violence. I urge everyone to exercise restraint while authorities ensure justice is delivered,” he appealed.

“The safety and security of our people remain our highest priority. As Northern Governors, we are united in our resolve to foster stronger community ties, boost intelligence sharing, and prevent a repeat of such tragic incidents,” Yahaya concluded.

He also approved an amendment extending the lifespan of the 2025 budget from March 31 to June 30, 2026, to ensure completion of ongoing capital projects nationwide.

Under the 2026 fiscal plan, ₦4.799 trillion is set aside for statutory transfers, ₦15.8 trillion for debt servicing, ₦15.4 trillion for recurrent spending, while ₦32.2 trillion goes to capital projects—about half of the total budget.

The focus, according to the administration, is on infrastructure development, security, and growth-driven investments aimed at improving living standards.
