The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has pledged that the Nigerian Army will relentlessly pursue and ensure justice for all those behind the recent wave of killings and violent attacks in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of the North-Central region.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s determination to hunt down and bring to justice those behind the recent wave of killings and violent attacks in Benue, Plateau, and other parts of the North-Central region.

Speaking during a media interaction organised by the Nigerian Army in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Oluyede — represented by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Major General Obinna Onubogu — vowed, “We shall go after them, and by God’s grace, we will get them.”

The COAS emphasized the Army’s unwavering commitment to protecting lives and preserving Nigeria’s territorial integrity. The media engagement, themed “Military-Media Collaboration: Panacea for Enhanced National Security and Development,” aimed to strengthen ties between the military and the media in the collective quest for peace and development.

Oluyede assured Nigerians that the military remains resolute in its operations and will not allow criminal elements to compromise the nation’s internal security. Addressing the escalating violence in Benue and Plateau states, he revealed that “In Benue, you will see in the coming weeks very elaborate security arrangements to ensure that all that is going on there completely stops.”

He noted that while some attacks have been linked to herders, there is increasing suspicion of foreign involvement. “We’re seeing patterns that don’t reflect any national identity or values — this behavior is despicable. We believe some of the perpetrators may be foreign elements. Rest assured, we’ll be there and we will put a stop to it.”

According to him, the President has issued clear directives to act decisively. “The President has given very clear orders for us to go out there. And so, we are out — fully deployed — and tackling the menace head-on.”

The Army Chief also appealed for stronger community support, stressing the importance of timely intelligence. “The Army cannot be everywhere at once. Nigeria is vast, and our numbers aren’t as large as assumed. We depend heavily on the people to provide credible information. Unfortunately, delayed or inaccurate tips have slowed us down in some cases. That must change.”

On the challenge of fake news and sensationalism, Oluyede urged journalists to verify their reports and prioritize national unity. “The social media space is riddled with misinformation and outright lies. That’s part of why we’re here — to clarify facts and urge the press to reach out to us before publishing unverified content.”

He commended the media’s support so far but stressed the need to deepen collaboration to protect national security.

Oluyede concluded by noting that military action is just a part of the broader solution. “The Army’s contribution to national security is about 20 to 30 percent. The rest depends on civil cooperation, intelligence sharing, and addressing the root causes of the conflict. But whatever it takes, we will not stop until peace is restored across North-Central Nigeria.”

Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Usman Austin Okai, has expressed concern over the growing media clashes between supporters of former presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a statement released on Friday, Okai warned that the ongoing exchanges are a harmful distraction and pose a serious threat to the unity of the ADC coalition.

He noted that the situation could undermine efforts to resolve the party’s internal leadership dispute, which is currently before the courts.

Okai called on both Atiku and Obi to provide clearer direction for their supporters, urging them to channel their energy toward shared objectives rather than engaging in internal conflicts.

He stressed that the coalition’s priority should be the ongoing legal battle aimed at reclaiming the party’s structure from the faction led by David Mark.

According to him, while supporters engage in attacks on social media, political opponents are closely observing and could take advantage of divisions within the alliance.

Okai warned that the continued hostility risks weakening the coalition’s position at a critical time, adding that unnecessary distractions could give rivals an edge.

He further cautioned that prolonged attacks and divisions among supporters could create lasting resentment, making it difficult for the coalition to unite ahead of future elections.

He concluded by urging an immediate end to the media feud, warning that failure to do so could cause long-term damage to the party and its prospects.
