The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, has said the deployment of 6,195 newly trained soldiers is a strategic move to reinforce the Nigerian Army’s mission to restore peace and security in troubled regions across the country.
Oluyede made the statement during the Passing Out Parade (POP) of the 88 Regular Recruit Intake (RRI), which held in Zaria, Kaduna State. He also served as the reviewing officer at the ceremony.
Addressing the graduating recruits, the COAS urged them to exhibit unwavering courage in confronting the nation’s security challenges.
“The responsibilities of the Nigerian Army extend beyond our national borders. We have played vital roles in promoting peace and stability across West Africa, the broader continent, and globally.
“Today, you join the ranks of courageous men and women who have pledged to defend this nation. As you begin your journey in this noble profession, remember that you are now part of the solution to the persistent threats of terrorism and insurgency,” he said.
Oluyede emphasized the importance of professionalism, urging the recruits to reflect the highest standards of their military training wherever they are deployed.
“You must embody excellence, discipline, and integrity in all your assignments. At no time should you be found wanting,” he stressed.
He further encouraged them to uphold the Army’s core values — trust, commitment, determination, and selfless service — noting that the day marked a defining moment in their lives and those of their families.
“This is not just any day — it is the beginning of a life dedicated to sacrifice, patriotism, and service to our great nation,” Oluyede declared.
Reaffirming his leadership’s dedication to operational efficiency, the COAS assured that the Army remains committed to providing all necessary resources and support, with soldiers’ welfare remaining a top priority under his command philosophy.
