Tinubu’s Inner Circle Speaks: Here’s When Nigeria Will Know His 2027 Running Mate

As public discourse intensifies over Vice President Kashim Shettima’s future, the Presidency on Thursday stated that President Bola Tinubu has not finalized any decision regarding his running mate for the 2027 election.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has clarified that President Bola Tinubu has not yet selected a running mate for the 2027 presidential election.

Addressing questions about Vice President Kashim Shettima’s absence from recent endorsement campaigns for Tinubu’s second-term bid, Onanuga described discussions on the choice of running mate as premature.

He cautioned against misinterpreting the presidency’s silence as a sign of exclusion or internal conflict.
“When I saw the report, I dismissed it as irrelevant. In a presidential system, a candidate is first nominated, and only then does he choose a running mate. That was the case with Buhari, and it will be the same this time. Once INEC releases the election timetable and the APC holds its convention, the president—if renominated—will pick his running mate,” he explained.

Onanuga also rejected suggestions that Tinubu’s history of changing deputies during his time as Lagos governor indicates a likelihood of replacing Shettima.
“Yes, there were specific political issues in Lagos. Tinubu and his first deputy, Kofo Bucknor-Akerele, had differences, and she left. Femi Pedro succeeded her but later defected to pursue a governorship bid. These were circumstantial—not a pattern of discarding deputies,” he said.

He dismissed rumours of a rift between Tinubu and Shettima as baseless.
“To my knowledge, the president and the vice president enjoy a strong working relationship. All this speculation is just beer parlour gossip. Some people even absurdly claim Seyi Tinubu is the real vice president. It’s all nonsense,” he added.

When asked if the controversial Muslim-Muslim ticket would be repeated in 2027, Onanuga maintained that the religious debate has lost steam.
“Many of the names being speculated as possible running mates are Muslims. The president even attended the Pope’s inauguration. The Islamisation fear narrative no longer holds. Christians are living their lives freely.”

He also addressed concerns about premature endorsements despite INEC’s campaign timeline.
“These endorsements are a direct response to attacks from opposition figures. Had the opposition not begun early hostilities, the APC would have waited until next year. But we won’t remain silent while opponents openly plot. We welcome the show of support. It affirms the people’s confidence in the president,” Onanuga concluded.

The Ute Okpu Kingdom in Ika North East Local Government Area of Delta State has suspended the burial of late Dr Chamberlain Nnamdi Dunkwu pending the outcome of an independent autopsy to determine the actual cause of his death.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Dr Dunkwu, who served until March 7, 2026, as Deputy Chief of Staff (Legislative) to the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, has been at the centre of growing concerns within his community over the circumstances surrounding his passing.

The community dismissed reports suggesting that burial arrangements had already been concluded, describing them as false and misleading amid rising suspicions about how he died.

This position was contained in a joint statement issued by the Obi of Ute Okpu Kingdom, the Elders-in-Council, traditional chiefs, youth groups, the Uwizimas, and members of the Dunkwu family led by Chief Augustine Dunkwu.

Community leaders called on relevant authorities, including the Nigeria Police, the Ministry of Health, and other government agencies, to urgently ensure an independent medical examination is carried out.

They emphasised that no burial date has been fixed, stressing that burial will remain on hold until a full autopsy is completed to establish the true cause of death.

According to the statement, the decision was based on cultural, legal, and emotional considerations, noting that the circumstances surrounding the death remain unclear and require proper investigation.

The community also argued that an autopsy is necessary to ensure accountability and prevent similar incidents in the future, insisting that any wrongdoing must not go unaddressed.

Citing traditional beliefs, they maintained that their customs do not permit the burial of any person whose death is surrounded by doubt, stating that truth must precede burial rites.

On legal grounds, the statement referenced standard procedures for sudden or unexplained deaths, calling for compliance with relevant coroner laws and medical protocols that require autopsy in such cases.

The community reaffirmed its willingness to cooperate fully with investigative authorities, stressing that it is not opposing burial but insisting on due process and clarity.

They further stated that once the autopsy is concluded and findings are released, a proper and dignified burial would be conducted.

The statement ended with a unified stance from all stakeholders in Ute Okpu Kingdom: “In the interest of justice, tradition, and the safety of our people, we stand united: No autopsy, no burial.”
