In response to growing speculation about a rift between President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima — including rumours that Tinubu might consider a different running mate for the 2027 elections — the Federal Government has firmly denied any such discord.

During an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday, Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, dismissed the claims as unfounded and imaginary.

“This alleged rift only exists in the minds of those who wish to believe it,” Idris said. “I’ve seen the President and Vice President engage closely and cordially — as recently as a few days ago.”

When asked whether President Tinubu was considering replacing Shettima in 2027, Idris strongly refuted the notion:
“Who told you that? When Tinubu secured the ticket in 2023, did you hear Shettima’s name immediately? The choice of running mate is the President’s decision — and he chose Shettima. They’ve worked seamlessly since then, and I’ve seen no sign of that changing.”

APC North-East Endorsement Sparks Rumours
Speculation intensified after the APC’s North-East leadership, led by Mustapha Salihu, endorsed Tinubu’s 2027 bid — notably omitting any mention of Shettima, a native of the region. The omission reportedly prompted a quiet protest led by Borno State Governor Babagana Zulum.

Unconfirmed claims even suggested Shettima was once denied access to the President at the Villa — a report Idris unequivocally rejected.

“Denied access? That’s absurd. This isn’t a repeat of the Atiku-Obasanjo saga,” the Minister said. “The Tinubu-Shettima partnership is strong and well-rooted.”

He stressed that the Vice President continues to represent the President at official events and enjoys his full trust.
“Just yesterday, he represented the President at a major event in the Banquet Hall,” Idris said. “He speaks on behalf of the President regularly. Has Shettima himself ever said he has a problem with Tinubu?”

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.

The party further alleged that the move is aimed at distracting attention from governance challenges in the state.
