Cheating Exposed! 11 Centres, Dozens of Candidates to Face JAMB’s Wrath Over Fingerprint Fraud

Published

on

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has recommended strict sanctions against 11 Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres and several registrants implicated in fingerprint fraud during the registration process for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

This development was disclosed by the Registrar and Chief Executive of JAMB, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, following a high-level meeting with key stakeholders and the affected centres and candidates in Abuja on Tuesday. His remarks were delivered by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Dr Fabian Benjamin.

Prof. Oloyede stated that the proposed measures—pending approval from the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa—aim to uphold the integrity of the UTME registration process.

A significant glitch earlier disrupted the biometric data of nearly 380,000 candidates across Lagos and five states in the Southeast, due to mis-captures and system errors. In May, Prof. Oloyede issued a public apology after conducting a review of the affected centres.

During Tuesday’s session, the Registrar said:
“The board, in consultation with critical stakeholders, recommends that any registrant found to have handled more than 50 registrations with biometric infractions be barred from participating in any JAMB-related activity. This includes registering for future UTME exams or engaging in any other national examinations like WAEC, NECO, or NABTEB for a period of three years.”

He added that after the suspension period, the board may reconsider its stance if the registrant demonstrates genuine remorse.

“For those with fewer than 50 infractions, a stern warning will be issued. They must submit a formal apology and sign a bond pledging not to repeat such actions,” Oloyede said.

He further warned CBT centres involved in fraudulent practices, noting that they will also be required to submit evidence that their staff have undergone ethics training. These centres must present a letter from a nearby federal university confirming such training before they can be considered for future JAMB engagements.

“We will not partner with any CBT centre until they present a certificate from a federal institution certifying that their staff have been trained on ethical standards. For government-owned centres, reports of these violations will be forwarded to the appropriate authorities,” he added.

Some affected candidates and CBT centre operators admitted to engaging in fingerprint substitution during registration. They attributed their actions to ignorance or the pressure to meet high registration targets and pleaded for leniency.

One of the stakeholders, former Lagos Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, stressed that such actions could warrant criminal prosecution and possible imprisonment. He, however, urged JAMB to consider a more rehabilitative approach by allowing the offenders to sign undertakings not to repeat the offence.

Meanwhile, Bashir Gumel, a representative of Jicoras CBT Centre, revealed that an internal investigation is already underway. “We’ve summoned the involved parties, and they have confessed. To preserve our credibility, they must face appropriate disciplinary measures,” he said.

Factional Crisis Rocks ADC In Akwa Ibom As Party Splits Deepen.

Published

Barely a year after its inauguration in Akwa Ibom State, the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has been plunged into a deep factional crisis.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Multiple factions are now locked in a struggle for control of the party, leaving members uncertain about the legitimate leadership structure.

One faction is led by John Akpanudodehe, a former National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC), while another is headed by the embattled state chairman, Dick Duke.

Although the leader of a third faction could not be immediately confirmed, findings indicate that another group also exists within the party.

Sources further suggest that the Akpanudodehe-led faction is seeking to remove the current chairman through a recently held congress that has sparked controversy.

In response, Dick Duke convened a stakeholders’ meeting over the weekend, where he rejected the legitimacy of the said congress.

He said the party had formally written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to distance itself from the exercise, citing a subsisting court order.

According to him, his tenure as state chairman is still valid until May, and any congress conducted before then would be unlawful.

Duke added that the party would only proceed with proper congresses after the expiration of his tenure and the resolution of legal issues, in line with due process.
