The base, located at Fish Dam in Baga, Kukawa Local Government Area of Borno State, came under attack around 1:00 a.m., according to intelligence sources who spoke with Zagazola Makama.

The insurgents aimed to sabotage Swamp Boggeys—specialised amphibious vehicles recently acquired by the Borno State Government for clearing operations along the Lake Chad waterways.

A fierce gunfight erupted between the attackers and naval personnel, prompting immediate reinforcement from nearby troops stationed in Baga.

“Though the base held its ground, some damage was recorded. An ambulance and two vehicles were destroyed, and a few personnel sustained injuries during the exchange,” one of the sources disclosed.

The confrontation lasted over two hours before the terrorists were forced to retreat. Crucially, the Swamp Boggeys remained undamaged and secured.
