Speaking during a press briefing in Katsina on Tuesday to commemorate World No Tobacco Day, Dr. Funtua emphasized the urgent need to shield young people from the influence and dangers of tobacco consumption.
Protecting our children is non-negotiable,” he declared. “Any society that permits the exploitation of its youth by profit-driven tobacco companies is putting its future at risk.” He reaffirmed the commitment of the Katsina State Government, under Governor Dikko Umar Radda, to safeguarding public health from tobacco-related harm.
He urged citizens to prioritize well-being over addiction, stating, “Let us choose health over harm and strength over addiction. Together, we can transform this message into a powerful movement.” Dr. Funtua encouraged collaboration among government bodies, civil society, the media, educators, parents, health professionals, and young people in saying “no” to tobacco, and “yes” to a healthier, tobacco-free Katsina and Nigeria.
He also called on stakeholders to actively educate and empower the youth to become advocates against tobacco use in schools, communities, and online platforms.
World No Tobacco Day, established by the World Health Organization, aims to raise global awareness of the health risks posed by tobacco and push for policies that curb its consumption. The 2025 theme is “Protecting Children from the Tobacco Industry.”

Amupitan Risks Jail As Court Summons INEC Chairman.
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has been ordered to appear before the Federal High Court on March 10, 2026, over allegations of contempt of court.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
According to Naija News, the summons follows INEC’s alleged failure to comply with a prior court order directing the commission to recognise the National Rescue Mission (NRM) executive led by Chief Edozie Njoku as the party’s legitimate leadership.
The directive was issued by Justice Obiora Egwuatu on Wednesday after the INEC Chairman failed to appear in court.
INEC’s counsel, M.S. Bawa, requested an adjournment, citing an emergency. However, the judge proceeded to issue the summons.
NRM’s lead counsel, Oladimeji Ekengba, argued that contempt proceedings are quasi-criminal and require the defendant’s personal appearance in court. Following this, Justice Egwuatu ordered that a fresh hearing notice be served on Prof. Amupitan, directing him to appear at the next session.
The judge instructed the INEC Chairman to “show cause” why he should not be imprisoned for allegedly disobeying the court’s earlier directive.
The dispute originates from a mandamus order issued on March 5, 2025, which compelled INEC to recognise the outcome of the NRM’s January 2025 convention that produced the Edozie Njoku-led leadership.
Earlier challenges in personally serving Prof. Amupitan with court documents had led the court to approve substituted service of Form 48, allowing the official notice to be delivered to any staff member at INEC’s national headquarters in Abuja.
NRM officials expressed confidence that the electoral commission would ultimately comply with the court order and formally recognise their leadership.

“‘He Will Outlive You Like Trump!’ – Obidient Movement Warns Threats Against Peter Obi”.
The Obidient Movement North Central has issued a stern warning to anyone attacking or threatening the life of former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The movement cautioned that, similar to former U.S. President Donald Trump, Obi will outlive those plotting against him.
This message was conveyed in a statement titled “Warning to Those Attacking or Threatening Peter Obi,” shared with DAILY POST on Wednesday by the National Coordinator of the Movement, Yunusa Tanko.
The statement urged Obi’s detractors to reconsider their actions and warned of the grave consequences their threats could have for Nigeria.
It reads in part: “We have taken time to investigate the events in Edo State, including what led to them, those responsible, their threats, and potential next moves. That is why we did not issue an immediate statement.
“Now, with a clear understanding of what happened, we, the Obidient Movement of the North Central Zone, issue this warning to those attempting to turn Nigeria into another Somalia by provoking millions of peace-loving Obidient Movement members worldwide through threats or attacks against our principal, H.E. Mr. Peter Gregory Obi.
“Let it be known that just as Trump survived every attack during his campaigns, won the presidency in a historic landslide, and continues to counter evil, so too will Peter Gregory Obi outlive all those who wish him harm. He will go on to win the 2027 presidential election decisively and fulfill his God-given mission of rescuing Nigeria from the chaos it has been subjected to. This purpose is ordained and must be achieved.”
