History in Motion: Brave Oyo Cyclist Takes on Guinness World Record Challenge!
The Oyo State Government is set to make a historic entry into the Guinness Book of Records, according to the Commissioner for Women Affairs, Toyin Balogun.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Balogun revealed on Monday that the government is backing Ibadan-based biker, Ebaide Joy, who will embark on a record-breaking solo motorcycle journey across 12 African countries in July.
The journey aims to surpass the current Guinness World Record for the longest solo ride by a female biker, which stands at 30,000 kilometres. Beyond this feat, Ebaide’s mission includes providing life-changing vocational training to 18 orphaned girls in Nigeria—young women who, like her, grew up in orphanages.
Balogun noted that the Guinness World Records has officially approved the attempt, and the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development is fully supporting the initiative.
“This is not just a ride—it’s a powerful message of empowerment. Ebaide Joy is a fearless motorcyclist and philanthropist on a mission to break records while changing lives,” the commissioner stated.
She added that the initiative aligns with the ministry’s core goal of uplifting vulnerable groups through sustainable empowerment and poverty alleviation.
With the support of Governor Seyi Makinde, the ministry has pledged to support the vocational training and post-graduation empowerment of the 18 selected girls.
“Once these girls complete their training, the ministry will collaborate with Ebaide’s team to provide startup grants and tools so they can build stable livelihoods,” Balogun said.
She emphasized that the project symbolizes more than adventure—it represents the courage and resilience of African women challenging societal limits.
Ebaide’s journeys are documented through a camera mounted on her motorcycle, capturing the physical demands of her travels and the stories of the people she encounters.
Speaking during her visit to the ministry, Ebaide described the upcoming July expedition as the highlight of her life.
“This is not just about breaking a world record. It’s about breaking the cycle of poverty. As someone who grew up in an orphanage, I understand the challenges these girls face,” she told officials.
Her programme includes three months of intensive vocational training in tailoring, hairdressing, and catering. Upon graduation, each participant will receive capital to launch her own business.
The entire journey is expected to span three months, culminating in a graduation ceremony to celebrate the newly empowered girls and their fresh start.
