Kate Henshaw Cries Out: ‘Everything Is Falling Apart, Nigerians Are Barely Surviving!'”
Nollywood actress Kate Henshaw has questioned the significance of Nigeria’s uninterrupted democratic rule, stating that it has failed to meaningfully improve the lives of ordinary citizens.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during a special Democracy Day programme on Channels Television, Henshaw expressed disappointment over the country’s democratic journey, saying it has done little to meet the basic needs of the people.
She highlighted the steady collapse of the middle class, worsening poverty, deteriorating infrastructure, and inadequate healthcare, noting that many Nigerians are simply struggling to survive under harsh socio-economic conditions.
“Our democracy isn’t reflecting in the lives of the people,” she said. “Yes, we’ve had uninterrupted democracy, but what impact has that had? What’s the trickle-down effect? People are suffering. There’s no middle class anymore, our healthcare is in ruins, and insecurity persists.”
“Everything around us is falling apart, and Nigerians are hanging on by a thread.”
Despite the bleak situation, Henshaw urged citizens to remain resolute in holding government officials accountable, emphasizing that the fight for justice, equity, and security must continue.
“These battles won’t be won in a day. We must keep speaking out and demanding accountability. The people deserve justice, safety, and basic dignity.”
The actress also admitted she was hesitant to join in the Democracy Day celebrations, stating that the occasion felt hollow amid unfulfilled promises.
“I wanted to tweet ‘Happy Democracy Day,’ but there was nothing in me that could. It feels like something that hasn’t materialized — something that’s fading,” she said. “Still, I hold on to the hope that we’ll have a country worth living in — a nation our children can inherit and build upon.”
