Mike Ejeagha, affectionately known as “Gentleman,” died on Friday at the age of 95 following a prolonged illness. In a conversation with Vanguard, Emmanuel explained that the family simply honored the late folklorist’s final wish—to be buried within 24 hours of his death.

According to him, the burial took place quietly on June 7 in their hometown of Umuagba, Imezi-Owa, Enugu State, after a family meeting concluded in agreement with the deceased’s desire. He also disclosed that the Governor of Enugu State, Peter Mbah, was aware of the decision and supported the move in recognition of the music icon’s wish.

Emmanuel added that the family, in collaboration with the Enugu State Government, would constitute a committee to plan and execute full funeral rites scheduled for October 2025.

He also called on the Federal Government to posthumously honor his late father, noting that despite his enormous cultural contributions, he received little formal recognition during his lifetime.

“My father clearly expressed his desire to be buried within 24 hours of his death. We discussed it as a family, and even Governor Mbah agreed that his wish should be respected,” Emmanuel said.

He warned against dragging the state into fresh tension, accusing the state government of attempting to revive old allegations for political advantage.

Adewara said the PDP would not remain silent while what he called “political narratives” are used to influence public perception around a tragic incident that claimed multiple lives in Offa in 2018.

He also urged residents, especially affected families, not to allow their pain to be used for political gains, insisting it is unjust to associate Saraki with the crime.
