Death Behind Bars: NAF Launches Probe Into Officer’s Mysterious Demise During Punishment
The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has launched an investigation into the death of one of its personnel, Corporal Wulumba A.S., who was stationed at the Bauchi Command.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
It was earlier reported that Corporal Wulumba died while in detention at a guardroom, where he was allegedly held for arriving late to his duty post. His lateness was reportedly due to underlying health issues.
A family member disclosed that Wulumba had informed them that his delay was caused by illness, but his explanation was dismissed by his commanding officer.
“Our brother told us he arrived late because he was unwell, but his superior refused to consider his explanation. That was the last time we heard from him—until we were informed of his death on Friday,” the relative told reporters.
The family further stated that, under military regulations, detention for minor infractions such as lateness should not exceed 24 hours. They argued that if necessary, he should have faced a court-martial, not prolonged confinement.
Reacting to the incident, NAF described the development as “unfortunate” and assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway to determine the cause of death.
Speaking to Daily Trust on Tuesday, NAF spokesperson Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame confirmed that a Board of Inquiry has been set up to look into the incident.
“The Nigerian Air Force deeply regrets to confirm the unfortunate passing of Corporal Wulumba A.S. We extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and fellow personnel in this difficult time.
“The loss of any of our personnel is deeply felt across the service. In accordance with established procedures, a Board of Inquiry has been convened to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
“We are committed to ensuring transparency, accountability, and the welfare of all our personnel,” Ejodame stated.
