Tobi Amusan delivered her fastest 100m performance of the season on Saturday night at the Racers Grand Prix — a World Athletics Continental Tour Silver meet — held at the National Stadium in Kingston, Jamaica.

Competing in the women’s 100m final, Amusan clocked a remarkable 11.18 seconds (+1.8 m/s) to finish fourth in a fiercely competitive race witnessed by a crowd of 15,000 spectators.

This time marked a notable improvement on her previous season-best of 11.28s, which she ran at the Velocity Fest in March.

Running from lane two for Racers Track Club, the world 100m hurdles champion showed sharp reflexes with a reaction time of 0.198s, holding her own against a field packed with rising sprint stars. It was only her second 100m flat race of the year, and just her third in over a year, as she continues her steady foray into sprinting outside the hurdles.

Jamaica’s Tina Clayton clinched the win from lane three, powering to a season-best 10.98s, followed by Jacious Sears of the USA in 11.04s. Both athletes achieved the qualifying standard for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

Third place went to Jamaican teenager Alana Garren Reid (born in 2005), who ran an impressive 11.16s, narrowly edging out Amusan. Tina’s twin sister, Tia Clayton, rounded out the top five with a time of 11.24s.

Speaking after her victory, Tina Clayton said, “The last time I was this nervous, I ran 10.9, so I expected a strong performance today.”

Amusan’s 11.18s finish is her quickest since recording her personal best of 11.10s on the Florida circuit in 2023. Since relocating to Jamaica in late 2024 to train under legendary coach Glen Mills at Racers Track Club, her speed development has shown consistent progress. She opened her 2025 sprint season with 11.41s in the heats at Velocity Fest, improving to 11.28s in the final, then 11.26s at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida — culminating in Saturday’s breakthrough.

A family source told Vanguard that the General was speaking with his identical twin brother, who resides in the United Kingdom, at the time of the attack.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
