Drama in Senate! NSCDC Boss Backs Down, Withdraws Explosive Petition Against Police Over Illegal Mining
The leadership of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has expressed displeasure over a petition reportedly submitted to the Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges, and Public Petitions by the Commander of the Mining Marshal, ACC Attah John Onoja.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The petition alleged that police officers assaulted and opened fire on members of the NSCDC’s Mining Marshal unit and obstructed efforts to prosecute illegal miners arrested in Nasarawa State. It was earlier reported that ACC Onoja had filed a formal complaint against the Nigeria Police Force over these incidents.
However, the National Public Relations Officer of the NSCDC, CSC Afolabi Babawale, stated that the Commandant General, Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, was not pleased with the development, emphasizing that Onoja acted unilaterally and without prior approval from the corps’ leadership.
Babawale added that the NSCDC management has officially distanced itself from the petition and has ordered the officer to withdraw it immediately in order to foster a peaceful resolution of the matter.
He explained that this move aligns with the collaborative spirit shared between the NSCDC and the Nigeria Police, as well as the cordial working relationship between the Commandant General and the Inspector General of Police (IGP).
According to Babawale, the IGP has consistently supported the NSCDC’s operations, encouraging joint efforts among security agencies to bolster national security and realize the goals of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.
While internal disciplinary action is being considered for the officer involved, the Commandant General reiterated his commitment to continued cooperation with the Nigeria Police in the collective fight against crime and insecurity.
“I have personally spoken with the IGP regarding the incident and offer a sincere apology for any embarrassment the petition may have caused,” Dr. Audi said.
