Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has debunked speculations suggesting he plans to leave the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), reaffirming his commitment to the party under which he emerged as governor in 2023.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Lawal’s clarification came in response to recent remarks by the Minister of State for Defence and former governor of the state, Bello Matawalle, who urged him to join the All Progressives Congress (APC) for what he called “the progress of Zamfara.”

Speaking to The Punch on Sunday, Lawal’s Special Assistant on Media and Communications, Mustafa Kaura, described the defection rumours as unfounded and baseless.

“Some individuals are spreading false claims that Governor Dauda Lawal intends to defect from the PDP to the APC. This is entirely untrue,” Kaura said. “The governor remains firmly in the PDP and has no plans to switch parties. PDP supporters should disregard the speculation.”

Kaura emphasized that the governor is focused on delivering governance rather than engaging in political maneuvering. “He believes strongly in divine destiny—what God wills will happen, regardless of political affiliation,” he added.

Matawalle had previously extended an open invitation to Lawal to defect to the APC during a Sallah gathering at his Maradun residence, where he hosted thousands of supporters.

In a statement signed by his former Commissioner for Information, Ibrahim Dosara, Matawalle accused Lawal of playing a “hide-and-seek” game with the APC and urged him to be transparent.

“Rather than engage in political ambiguity, Dauda Lawal should join the APC openly,” Matawalle said, stressing that he bore no personal animosity toward the governor and would welcome him into the party.

Matawalle further challenged Lawal to translate the state’s federal allocations into impactful development projects. He praised President Bola Tinubu as a progressive leader committed to peace, security, and national advancement.

“President Tinubu welcomes all who seek to contribute to peace, development, and prosperity in Nigeria,” the minister said.

According to the source, the twins maintained a daily routine of speaking around midnight, but the conversation took a sudden turn that night when unusual activity was noticed at the General’s end.

He said the line went dead abruptly after the General paused during the call, apparently due to the unfolding situation at the base.

The twin brother reportedly made repeated attempts to reconnect, sending messages and calling continuously, but received no response throughout the night.

“He kept trying until about 4 am, but there was no answer,” the source said.

The family later confirmed the tragedy after a senior military officer contacted them around 6:30 am, informing them that the base had come under attack and that the Brigade Commander was among those killed.

The relative described the incident as devastating, noting that communication had broken down during the assault.

The late General was later buried alongside other fallen soldiers in Maiduguri, Borno State.

He wrote, “Chiemeka Chibuzor’s wedding is hereby suspended. More than a thousand applications. No more wedding pending further directive from me.”

The cleric had earlier this week publicly invited proposals for her marriage, setting conditions that included the suitor being young and in good physical and mental health, alongside promised financial support and housing benefits.

He also said the couple would enjoy lifelong support, including shared property ownership and periodic welfare checks from church members.

The development follows a similar arrangement recently conducted by the church involving a non-verbal autistic man who was married in a ceremony organised by the ministry.
