The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Monday evening convened a strategic meeting in Abuja with prominent members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), operating under the banner of the Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP. During the closed-door session, Wike firmly declared that the party “will not die,” despite ongoing internal challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

The high-level meeting was attended by several political heavyweights, including former G5 Governors Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), and Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia). Although it was unclear whether Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde—the only serving G5 member—was invited, the other original G5 governors were present.

Also in attendance were PDP National Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu, former Senate Minority Leader Philip Aduda, current and former lawmakers, as well as selected state and zonal PDP officials.

In his remarks, Wike emphasized that those present were individuals who had consistently demonstrated a genuine commitment to the party’s survival—not merely through public statements, but by actively working to strengthen the PDP at all levels.

“Everyone here is truly committed to keeping our party alive. You’re not just talking on TV or writing in newspapers—you’re on the ground, working for this party,” Wike said.

The former Rivers State governor also defended the controversial decisions made by the G5 Governors ahead of the 2023 general elections, describing them as crucial for national stability.

“Whether you like the G5 or not, the truth remains: if we hadn’t taken the steps we took, this country might be in serious turmoil today,” he asserted.

Wike criticized the PDP leadership for ignoring warnings and advice that, if heeded, could have changed the party’s electoral fate. “Had the party listened to us, we would not be in this current position. We simply asked for adherence to the party’s and the nation’s constitutions.”

He further warned against internal divisions fueled by personal ambition: “We must not allow greed and ego to destroy our party.”

On the controversy surrounding the office of the PDP National Secretary, Wike questioned the party’s inconsistent application of internal rules. He cited examples of other party members, including Taraba Governor Agbu Kefas and Deputy National Publicity Secretary Ibrahim Abdullahi, who retained their positions while contesting for governorships without being compelled to resign.

Published

ADC chieftain and publisher, Dele Momodu, has dismissed calls for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to withdraw from the 2027 presidential race, describing the push as unfair and politically motivated.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Momodu was reacting to comments by activist Zekeri Idris Jnr, a supporter of Peter Obi, who urged Atiku to step aside over concerns about his age, which would be about 80 by 2027.

In a post on his X handle on Saturday, Momodu said attention should be focused on holding the government accountable rather than targeting Atiku’s political ambition.

The exchange followed a viral video where Idris insisted that Atiku should support younger aspirants instead of contesting, arguing that voters would not back an elderly candidate.

Idris also suggested that Atiku should act as a statesman and support younger politicians such as Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and others.

Responding, Momodu cited several world leaders who held office at advanced ages, arguing that experience should not be dismissed in leadership discussions.

He questioned what should disqualify Atiku from contesting, insisting that age alone is not a valid reason.

Atiku, who lost the 2023 presidential election to President Bola Tinubu, is reportedly considering another run in 2027 under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).
