Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, has issued a stern warning to members of the State Executive Council, stating that any commissioner who fails to perform will be removed from office.
Speaking on Monday during the commissioning of eight newly built duplexes at the Commissioners’ Quarters in Asaba, the governor emphasized that performance—not gossip or lobbying—will determine who remains in office.
“There’s no blanket plan to dissolve the cabinet,” he said, “but those not performing will be dropped. Their exit will not affect others.”
Oborevwori revealed he had personally cautioned some underperforming commissioners, saying, “At least two or three are not doing well. I told one of them today at the chapel—you’re not performing.”
He dismissed circulating rumours about an impending cabinet dissolution, attributing them to idle speculation: “People talk too much without facts. They’ve not even heard anything from me.”
The governor stressed the need for initiative, visibility, and accountability. “If you’re a commissioner and we don’t see you, that’s on you. You should be engaging proactively—bring your memos, seek out the governor, and take ownership of your ministry’s success,” he said.
He added that commissioners will be held fully responsible for the performance of their ministries: “When a ministry is doing well, it’s a direct reflection of the commissioner’s leadership. If there’s a problem, the commissioner must be accountable.”
Highlighting his administration’s ongoing infrastructure drive, Oborevwori noted that there are numerous projects lined up for commissioning. “We may not finish inaugurating all by the end of the year, but we’ll do our best,” he assured.
He also pledged to emulate President Tinubu’s approach in showcasing achievements, referencing the recent inauguration of the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Road. “Like the President did, we’ll showcase our projects—starting with those in Warri—for all to see.”
