Judiciary Shutdown Looms! JUSUN Defies DSS Talks, Supreme Court Exit — Strike Continues Indefinitely
The Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria (JUSUN), Federal High Court Chapter, has affirmed that it will proceed with its planned indefinite nationwide strike beginning Monday, June 2, 2025, despite the Supreme Court Chapter’s decision to withdraw from the industrial action.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
A senior official of JUSUN revealed to SaharaReporters on Sunday evening that a crucial four-hour meeting with top officials of the Department of State Services (DSS) earlier in the day ended without any concrete resolution.
“The strike continues, even though the Supreme Court and the National Judicial Council have opted out. We had a four-hour meeting with the DSS Director-General and the Director of Operations at their headquarters, but nothing was resolved,” the official disclosed.
The source further noted that another high-level meeting is expected to be convened soon at the instance of the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), involving all key stakeholders. Until then, the strike directive remains in full effect.
JUSUN Directs Members to Stay Home
Reinforcing the union’s stance, Comrade Mohammed Isah, Secretary of the JUSUN Supreme Court Chapter (SCA), confirmed in a brief statement on Sunday:
“We just concluded a meeting with relevant stakeholders, but JUSUN has insisted the strike must continue. All staff are hereby directed to stay at home until further notice. Another meeting is scheduled for tomorrow as the strike progresses.”
Earlier on Sunday, it was reported that the Supreme Court Chapter of JUSUN had formally opted out of the strike action.
This decision followed an emergency executive meeting held on May 31 at the Supreme Court complex.
In a communique issued after the meeting, the chapter cited ongoing engagements and the unique circumstances of the Supreme Court as reasons for its non-participation in the strike.
“The Supreme Court Chapter of JUSUN hereby resolves not to participate in the planned strike action by the Federal Courts scheduled to commence on June 1, 2025,” the statement read.
While expressing solidarity with the broader concerns of judiciary workers nationwide, the chapter emphasized that the situation within the Supreme Court required a distinct and strategic approach.
