Challenging Yet Hopeful: Fubara Inspires Rivers People with Message of Progress”
The suspended Governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara, has issued a message of hope to the people of Rivers as they mark what would have been the second anniversary of his tenure as the state’s 7th democratically elected Governor.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
In a speech titled “Our Journey: Challenging but Progressive and Impactful!” delivered on Thursday, Fubara expressed his gratitude to the citizens of Rivers for their trust and unwavering support. He highlighted his administration’s dedication to delivering the benefits of democracy and improving the overall welfare of the state.
The statement, released through the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, was shared with the media on Thursday morning.
It is important to recall that Fubara’s administration was abruptly disrupted on March 18, 2025, when President Bola Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Citing ongoing political instability, breaches of the constitution, and security challenges—including pipeline vandalism—President Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial six-month period.
Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed as Sole Administrator to manage the state’s affairs during this emergency.
Ibas, who served as Nigeria’s Chief of Naval Staff from 2015 to 2021, pledged to restore law and order in the state and emphasized the need to collaborate with stakeholders to achieve peace and stability.
The declaration of emergency rule in Rivers has drawn mixed reactions: some view it as necessary to restore order, while others, including legal experts and political leaders, have criticized it as unconstitutional.
The Nigerian Bar Association has maintained that declaring a state of emergency does not justify the suspension of elected officials.
Below is the full text of Fubara’s message of hope delivered on May 29, 2025:
OUR JOURNEY: CHALLENGING BUT PROGRESSIVE AND IMPACTFUL!
“My dear people of Rivers State,
Today marks exactly two years since I was sworn in as your 7th democratically elected Governor. On May 29, 2023, I took the oath of office following the overwhelming mandate you gave me in the March 18, 2023 elections. I remain deeply grateful for your trust, honour, and the privilege to lead our beloved state.
Over these two years, our political environment has seen significant changes. Despite the challenges, I have remained resolute and focused, guided by the oath I took and my solemn promise to always prioritize Rivers State. I pledged to protect and advance our collective interests and to ensure that you enjoy the true dividends of democracy and good governance. That commitment remains unwavering.”
